Egyptian star Mayar Sherif continued her campaign in the women's singles at the Hamburg tennis tournament, after qualifying for the quarterfinals of the clay-court event.

Mayar Sherif had no difficulty overcoming the obstacle of French player Elsa Jacquemot, defeating her 6-2, 6-3 on Thursday in the Round of 16 of the competition, currently being held in Germany.

Thus, the Egyptian star set up a quarterfinal meeting with the winner of the match between Spain's Paula Badosa and Hungary's Panna Udvardy, the tournament's third seed, which will be played later today as part of the Round of 16.

Mayar Sherif enters the tournament with high spirits, following her title win at the Iasi Open, a WTA 250 event, for the first time in her career, propelling her to No. 55 in the world now in the WTA rankings, maintaining her lead among Arab and African players.
