German Jurgen Klopp has become closer than ever to coaching his country's national team, to succeed coach Julian Nagelsmann after his failure in the 2026 World Cup.

The German national team failed to advance past the Round of 32 in the World Cup, after losing on penalties to Paraguay, leading the German federation to decide to let go of Nagelsmann.

The German national team has been seeking to restore its prestige for years. After winning the World Cup in 2014, it failed to advance past the group stage in two consecutive editions in 2018 and 2022, before Die Mannschaft's disappointment was completed in 2026.

The German federation believes that Jurgen Klopp, the former Liverpool coach, is capable of getting the German machine back on track, so they prefer him over any other coach at the current stage.

Much controversy arose after Germany's exit from the World Cup regarding Klopp's impending role as coach of his country's team, before the German manager himself commented on the news.

During his presence in New York to attend the 2026 World Cup final between Argentina and Spain, Klopp confirmed his intention to take over the German national team, stressing that negotiations have reached advanced stages and that the official agreement is imminent.

In an interview with German channel 'Magenta TV', the German coach, head of football at energy drink company Red Bull, explained that the final touches are still being prepared.

He indicated, as reported by 'Foot Mercato', that he and the German Football Association 'are not far from the official announcement and hope it will happen in the coming days'.

It is worth noting that Klopp achieved many accomplishments during his tenure at Liverpool from 2015 to 2024, most notably winning the Champions League in 2019, along with the Premier League in 2020.
