The Egyptian Football Federation renewed the contract with Hossam Hassan, the head coach of the senior national football team, for an upcoming period, after the successes he achieved with the 'Pharaohs' since he took over the responsibility in February 2024.
The federation said in a statement on Wednesday evening: 'This comes within the framework of the board's keenness to complete the technical project of the national team, and to build on the historical achievements achieved for Egyptian football during the past period.'
The head of the Egyptian Football Federation, Hani Abu Rida, explained that the board of directors 'will complete the procedures for approving and renewing the contract during its next meeting.'
Hossam Hassan, 59, took charge of Egypt in February 2024, succeeding Portuguese Rui Vitória, who was sacked after exiting the round of 16 of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast.
Hassan, the all-time top scorer for Egypt, played 35 matches at the helm of the team, achieving 20 wins, nine draws, and six losses, and led the team to reach the semi-finals of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.
But the greatest achievement of the Egyptian national coach was qualifying for the 2026 World Cup for the first time in eight years, and achieving the first win in the history of the 'Pharaohs' in the finals against New Zealand 3-1, before exiting in the round of 16 after a dramatic near-end loss of 2-3 to defending champions Argentina.
Egyptian media revealed that the new contract will extend for four years until the 2030 World Cup finals, hosted by Morocco, Spain, and Portugal, noting that Hassan's previous contract ended at the end of the team's journey in the 2026 World Cup.
