The German Football Association announced on Friday the appointment of coach Jürgen Klopp as national team coach, succeeding Julian Nagelsmann who resigned after Germany's early exit from the 2026 North America World Cup.

Nagelsmann had announced his resignation four days after elimination by Paraguay in the round of 32 of the World Cup finals hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

Bernd Neuendorf, president of the German Football Association, said at a press conference in Frankfurt: "We are very pleased to be able to present Jürgen Klopp as the new national team coach today."

Neuendorf explained that Klopp's contract will run until the summer of 2030, i.e., until the next World Cup hosted by Morocco, Spain, and Portugal, noting that the contract will take effect on August 15 next.

Klopp expressed his enthusiasm for the new task, saying: "It is the perfect climax for my professional career and professional life, and I will put all my energy into serving this task."

Klopp (59 years old) is considered one of the most prominent coaches in German and world football, having had successful coaching stints with Mainz and Borussia Dortmund before taking over English Liverpool in the fall of 2015, leading them to the English Premier League title and the UEFA Champions League, before leaving the club in the summer of 2024.
