Holtby announces retirement from football
Former Germany midfielder Lewis Holtby has announced his retirement from football at the age of 35.
Former Germany midfielder Lewis Holtby announced his retirement from football on Tuesday evening at the age of 35. Holtby, who was most recently playing for Dutch side NAC Breda, made the announcement on Instagram.
Holtby wrote: 'The greatest honor of my career was representing my country – something I will always be proud of.'
Holtby earned three international caps for Germany between October 2010 and November 2012. He spent most of his career in the Bundesliga, playing for several clubs including Schalke, Mainz, Hamburg, Bochum, and Holstein Kiel.
Holtby also had a spell in England with Tottenham, Fulham, and Blackburn. He wrote: 'I will never give up football. This game will always be a part of my identity, and I am excited for what lies ahead.'
