(CNN) -- Iran's Deputy Minister of Sports and Youth, Mohammad Shervin Asbghian, said on Saturday that the country's football federation has filed an official complaint with the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) against the United States, due to what he described as 'the obstacles it placed during the hosting of the 2026 World Cup.'

In response to a question about whether he was concerned about such obstacles being repeated for the Iranian delegation at the upcoming Los Angeles Olympics, the Iranian official told Iran's official news agency IRNA: 'The more they obstruct, the more they are disgraced in the eyes of the world's people. The illogical and unprincipled behaviors that the Americans have exhibited towards the national team have proven that the hegemony system is exploitative and tyrannical.'

The deputy minister added: 'We believe that sports are separate from politics. Despite all attempts to prevent the national team from participating in the World Cup, the country's leadership deemed it necessary for them to take part. The players delivered an honorable performance in their matches, fighting and giving their best.'

He affirmed that 'they have no fears regarding the obstacles the US might place before the Iranian delegation at the 2028 Olympics. We continue our work with full confidence. The Olympic Charter is based on the principles of peace and friendship, and sports remain separate from politics. We will be strongly present at the Los Angeles Olympics.'

He said that the Iranian football federation is pursuing the complaint it filed with FIFA against the US.

The Iranian national team suffered from poor conditions before the start of the tournament, since the country entered a conflict with the United States last February.

The Iranian team navigated the tournament the hard way. There were discussions about whether they would participate at all, and the team was unable to play the usual series of friendly matches this spring in preparation for the tournament due to the war.

The US also did not allow them to hold their training camp in Arizona as planned. Instead, they had to set it up across the border in Tijuana, Mexico.

The Iranian team was forced to travel back and forth to the United States repeatedly, which reduced their preparation time inside the US and negatively affected player recovery after matches, according to their coach.

Luck was not on the Iranian team's side after the three matches against Egypt, Belgium, and New Zealand. They had hoped to reach the round of 32 as one of the best eight third-place teams, but results from other groups prevented that.
