Khosla Submits Bid to Buy Seattle Seahawks in Biggest Club Deal in History
Tech billionaire Vinod Khosla has reached an agreement to acquire the Seattle Seahawks, which competes in the National Football League (NFL), for $9.6 billion, according to the Sportico platform, citing people familiar with the deal.
Khosla bought the current Super Bowl champion from the estate of the late owner Paul Allen, in a deal that places the team among the highest valuations recorded in the history of sports team deals.
The group led by Khosla outperformed other competing offers, including an alliance led by billionaire Aditya Mittal, CEO of ArcelorMittal, which operates in the steel and mining sectors, according to the report.
The first round of offers for the acquisition of the Seahawks closed on June 29 last year, according to Bloomberg.
The deal came after expectations that the Seahawks' valuation would exceed the record set in the NFL, which is $6.05 billion, paid for the Washington Commanders in 2023. League rules also stipulate that any potential acquisition group must hold 30% of the deal value upfront.
The Seattle Seahawks had won the Super Bowl XLIX title last February after defeating the New England Patriots.
