Portuguese Diogo Leite has received an offer to join Al-Diriyah first football team, the new entrant in the Saudi Roshn League, during the summer transfer window, according to Portuguese newspaper A Bola on Friday. According to the Portuguese newspaper, Leite, a center-back for German side Union Berlin, whose contract runs until the end of the 2025-2026 season, is leaning towards Al-Diriyah's offer, under the leadership of compatriot Bruno Lage, the newly appointed coach. Leite, aged 27, played 23 matches for Union Berlin last season, totaling 1,970 minutes of playing time. Leite came through the ranks at Portuguese club Porto's academy and played his first match with the senior team in the 2018-19 season, before his contract was purchased by Union Berlin in the summer of 2023 for seven million euros. It is worth noting that Al-Diriyah officially announced the signing of Lage on Monday, marking his fifth coaching stint. Lage began his coaching career at Benfica's academy before taking charge of the first team in 2019, leading them to the league title in the same season. He coached English side Wolverhampton in the 2021-2022 season, had a brief stint outside Europe with Brazilian club Botafogo for three months in the 2023 season, before returning to Benfica in 2024, where his contract was terminated in September 2025. Lage has four titles in his coaching record, all with Benfica: the 2018-2019 league title, the 2024-2025 League Cup, and two Super Cup titles in 2019 and 2025.
