Matthias Sammer, former German football star, criticized his country's national team performance in the 2026 World Cup, pointing out that he no longer sees a clear identity for the team, while praising the character of the Argentine national team.

Sky Sport Germany quoted Sammer as saying: 'Argentina were the World Cup holders, yet we allowed ourselves to underestimate this team.'

He added: 'Argentina is a team that never gives up. Of course, one cannot agree with the way they behaved after the final whistle (against Spain in the final), but that is part of their identity. I like their playing style more than what I currently see from the German national team.'
