Spanish rider Marc Marquez of the Ducati Lenovo team set a record by winning the German Grand Prix, the 11th round of the MotoGP World Championship series, on Sunday at the Sachsenring circuit.
Marquez (33) achieved his tenth victory in 11 races held at the German circuit, equaling the record set by Italian legend Giacomo Agostini, who achieved it 51 years ago at the Imatra circuit in Finland in 1975.
Marquez, a seven-time world champion, finished second in 2024, the only time he did not win at this circuit since his debut in the premier MotoGP class in 2013.
With this win, the reigning champion continued his march toward the top of the overall standings, raising his points to 190, moving up two places to third at the expense of Italians Marco Bezzecchi, the former leader, and Fabio Di Giannantonio, and 18 points behind Spanish leader Jorge Martin.
Marc Marquez dominated the race from start to finish, starting from pole position ahead of his younger brother Alex Marquez of Gresini Racing, and the brothers maintained this order until Alex Marquez crashed at the final corner on lap nine.
Marc Marquez's lead peaked with five laps remaining, as he continued his domination and marched toward his third win of the season, all of which have come in the last four rounds, ahead of Trackhouse Racing riders Japanese Ai Ogura and Spanish Raul Fernandez.
Spanish rider Pedro Acosta of KTM took fourth place, ahead of championship leader Jorge Martin, who finished fifth with the Aprilia team.
Italian rider Marco Bezzecchi of Aprilia missed the race due to surgery after suffering a fracture of his left collarbone following a crash during the qualifying session on Saturday on the circuit.
