Barcelona announced on Thursday the extension of the loan of young Uruguayan defender Patricio Pacifico (20 years old), who arrived from Defensor Sporting in his country, for an additional season with Barcelona Atlètic, while retaining an option to permanently buy his contract.

The Spanish newspaper Mundo Deportivo reported that the Catalan club was very impressed by the levels Pacifico showed with the reserve team, but his injury, a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee, raised doubts about his future within the club.

The newspaper added that Barcelona and Defensor Sporting, after assessing the player's condition, reached an agreement to extend his loan for another season, with the Catalan club retaining an option to buy his contract in the future, after his full recovery and return to the fields.

Patricio Pacifico played 7 matches with Barcelona Atlètic, and showed that he is a defender of interest for the future.

The Uruguayan plays on the left side, and can play as a left back or center back, and he shone with the reserve team, and will now have the necessary peace to recover from his injury in Barcelona.

The Catalan club believes that Pacifico has the potential to reach the first team, so it kept the purchase option in the loan agreement.
