After leading the Spanish national team to win the 2026 World Cup, attention has turned to Rodri's future, amid reports speaking of his desire to take on a new challenge and return to La Liga during the summer transfer window.

Journalist Ramon Alvarez reported via his YouTube channel that the Manchester City midfielder wants to move to Real Madrid this summer, and is waiting for the royal club to submit a formal offer to sign him, after rejecting several offers to renew his contract with the English club.

Rodri, aged 30, enters the final year of his contract with Manchester City, which leaves the English club with two options: sell him this summer to profit financially, or risk losing him for free at the end of his contract.

Rodri's desire to return to La Liga comes after an exceptional summer, during which he led the Spanish national team to win the 2026 World Cup. The midfielder delivered impressive performances throughout the tournament, earning the Golden Ball as the best player of the World Cup, and set a record by completing 648 successful passes, confirming his pivotal role in leading 'La Roja' to the title.

Alvarez pointed out that Manchester City made repeated attempts to convince the player to extend his contract, but all renewal offers were met with rejection.

Rodri had postponed deciding his future until after the World Cup, before deciding to wait for Real Madrid's move, without entering into any other negotiations.

Despite Rodri's clear desire to wear the Real Madrid shirt, the royal club's position remains undecided.

He explained that some figures within Real Madrid believe signing the Spanish midfielder would represent a great addition to the team, but the management has not made a final decision on submitting a formal offer, amid differing opinions within the club.
