(CNN)— Anwar Gargash, advisor to the UAE president, commented on the Moroccan national team's victory over Canada in the round of 16 of the 2026 World Cup, being held in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

In a post on his official account on platform X, formerly Twitter, Gargash wrote: "The Moroccan star shines with the glow of victory, congratulations to the Atlas Lions, and all the best ahead."

Morocco defeated their Canadian opponents 3-0 in a match hosted at NRG Stadium on Saturday, as part of the round of 16 of the 2026 World Cup.

Azzedine Ounahi (brace) and Soufiane Rahimi scored the goals for the Atlas Lions in the 50th, 82nd, and 90+ minutes.

With this victory, Morocco qualified for the World Cup quarterfinals to face France, while Canada, the co-host, exited the tournament.
