English football club Tottenham announced on Wednesday its signing of Jan Paul van Hecke, a player from Brighton.

The club posted a picture of the player on its official account on social media platform X and commented: 'Welcome, Jan Paul van Hecke.'

The club did not announce the contract length or the transfer value, but the website Foot Mercato mentioned that the Dutch defender signed a long-term contract.

It added that after several weeks of negotiations, the club reached an agreement to sign the Dutch international for about 50 million euros (approximately 52 million pounds sterling).

Van Hecke (26 years old) leaves Brighton after four seasons marked by steady progress in the English Premier League.

Last season, he played in 36 matches in the English Premier League, starting in all of them.
