Tottenham Hotspur, competing in the English Women's Super League, announced on Tuesday the signing of defender Alice Sombath from French club Olympique Lyonnais.

Neither club disclosed the financial details of the deal, but media reports indicated that its value exceeded the previous record for the London club to sign Norwegian Sigrid Jåsund for 375,000 pounds ($503,700).

Sombath said in a statement: "I think the league is very competitive, every match is tough and that is what excites me more than anything else."

The French player (22 years old) played 106 matches for Lyon in all competitions, winning five consecutive French league titles and the UEFA Women's Champions League title in the 2021-2022 season.

She has played 16 matches for the French national team since her debut in 2024.
