Belgian Jasper Philipsen won the 17th stage of the Tour de France cycling race, which covered 174.7 km between Chambéry and Voiron in the Alps, while Slovenian Tadej Pogacar moved a step closer to his third consecutive title and record fifth, keeping the yellow jersey for the overall leader.

Philipsen claimed his first stage of this edition and his 11th overall in his Tour participations, after beating Swiss Mauro Schmid and Dutch Olav Kooij in the final sprint, among a group of 26 riders who finished the stage with the same time.

Pogacar was not in this group; he crossed the finish line in 50th place, 8 minutes and 46 seconds behind the leading riders, similar to his main rival for the lead, Belgian Remco Evenepoel, who finished 57th with the same time as the Slovenian.

The same applies to third-placed overall Mexican Isaac Del Toro, who finished the stage in 52nd place with the same time as Pogacar, as did fourth-placed young Frenchman Paul Seixas.

Thus, Pogacar remained in the lead for the 12th consecutive stage and the 13th since the start of the 113th edition of the famous French tour, leading Evenepoel by 4:32 minutes in the overall standings, and Del Toro by 6:51 minutes.

With four stages left before the finish on Sunday on the Champs-Élysées, Pogacar appears on track for a fifth title, equaling the record shared by Frenchmen Jacques Anquetil and Bernard Hinault, Belgian Eddy Merckx, and Spanish Miguel Indurain.
