A 13-year-old boy died and three other people were seriously injured after the historic 'Fat Tree' fountain collapsed in the Glorieta del Árbol Gordo square in the city of Ciudad Rodrigo in the province of Salamanca, Spain, while a large crowd was celebrating the Spanish national team's victory in the 2026 World Cup.

The emergency service in the region of Castile and León reported that the tragic incident occurred on Monday morning, when the operations center received several calls alerting them to the collapse of part of the structure onto some people who had gathered inside the fountain to celebrate the historic triumph.

Part of the structure collapsed under the weight of the large crowd that had gathered inside the fountain, with a large stone falling on the young victim, causing her death later at the health center in Ciudad Rodrigo after she was transferred along with another injured person for first aid.

Upon receiving the reports, the emergency service immediately notified the local police of Ciudad Rodrigo, the Civil Guard in Salamanca, the firefighters of the Provincial Council of Salamanca, and the health emergency service 'Sacyl', who mobilized aid resources to the scene immediately.

Medical emergency services provided first aid to two people who were transferred to the health center in Ciudad Rodrigo, where one of them died, while no further details have been released about the condition of the other injured person, and the condition of the other three injured remains unknown.
