(CNN) – The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has announced a hearing to consider the appeal filed by the Senegalese Football Federation against the decision of the African Football Confederation (CAF) to declare it a loser in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations final due to its withdrawal after a penalty was awarded to Morocco.

The CAS statement said: 'The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) confirms the scheduling of a hearing as part of the legal proceedings between the Senegalese Football Federation (FSF) on one side, and the African Football Confederation (CAF) and the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) on the other, concerning the Africa Cup of Nations - Morocco 2025 (AFCON 2025). The hearing will take place on October 8, 2026, at the court's headquarters in Lausanne, Switzerland.'

The court continued in its statement: 'Regarding the case before the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) and scheduled to be decided on March 25, 2026, the Senegalese Football Federation (FSF) through its appeal seeks to annul the decision of the African Football Confederation (CAF) which held that the Senegalese national team lost the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations final (due to withdrawal or failure to play) and considered the Moroccan national team the winner of the match by a score of 3-0; the appeal also requests the court to declare the Senegalese Federation the winner of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations title.'

CAS added: 'The parties did not agree to expedite this procedure, so it is subject to the usual timeline in accordance with the procedural rules of the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS). The hearing date was set after consultation with the parties, who also did not request it to be public; meaning it will be held behind closed doors.'

It continued: 'Following the hearing, the panel will begin its deliberations. At this stage, the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) cannot set a date for the final decision, but it will not be issued on the same day as the hearing.'

The African Football Confederation had issued a decision on March 18 declaring the Moroccan national team the winner of the final by a 3-0 default due to Senegal's withdrawal after a penalty was awarded to Morocco, a decision that the Senegalese Federation appealed against at CAS.

That match had ended with Senegal winning 1-0 with a goal scored by Pape Gueye in extra time after Ibrahim Diaz missed the penalty that led to Senegal's withdrawal after it was awarded, before they returned to the pitch and completed the match.
