Unexpected Destination: European Club Announces Signing of Zidane's Son
French club Red Star FC officially announced the signing of young defender Elias Zidane, 20, son of football legend Zinedine Zidane, in a deal aimed at strengthening the team's backline ahead of the new season.
In its official statement, the club said that Zidane joined the squad from Real Betis, stressing that the player possesses technical and physical qualities that make him a significant addition to coach Audonian's lineup.
Elias Zidane began his training at the Canias club before moving to Real Madrid's training center, where he spent more than 10 years in the youth ranks of the royal club, before signing for Real Betis in 2024.
Zidane holds French nationality and has previously represented France's youth national teams at various age levels. He won the UEFA European Under-17 Championship in 2022, reached the final of the UEFA European Under-19 Championship in 2024, and delivered a notable performance at the FIFA Under-20 World Cup in Chile in 2025.
The young defender, who stands at 1.96 meters tall, is distinguished by his strong physical abilities and excellent defensive positioning, as well as his ability to build play from the back, making him a model modern defender who combines toughness with tactical intelligence.
