Julian Nagelsmann officially announced his departure as head coach of the Germany national team, after 'Die Maschinen' exited the 2026 FIFA World Cup in the Round of 32, following a penalty shootout loss to Paraguay (5-4), an early farewell to the tournament.

In his first comment after the decision, Nagelsmann said in an official statement reported by Sky that he spent the past days thinking and reviewing the situation, noting that he consulted with close associates, both personally and within the German Football Association (DFB), before making his final decision.

The German coach explained that the decision to leave was not easy, but it came primarily out of the interest of the national team, stressing that 'Die Maschinen' need a fresh start after the World Cup exit, on different foundations that help the team regain its balance. Nagelsmann made a point of thanking the coaching staff and the workers in the German Football Association, in addition to the players he coached during his tenure as head of the national team, expressing his appreciation for the experience he had with them. He also sent a special message to the fans of the German national team, saying they were always a source of support and trust for the team even in the most difficult moments, expressing his regret for not achieving results that satisfy their ambitions, and for not being able to give them a successful World Cup campaign, despite their deserving it. Nagelsmann concluded his message by emphasizing that the disappointment in the World Cup was painful for everyone, but it will remain a motivation for the future for the German national team.
