Jurgen Klopp confirmed Saturday that he has regained his energy and is 'ready' for what he described as 'intensive talks' about taking charge of the German national football team.

Klopp informed the German Football Association on Friday that he is 'in principle ready' to take over as head coach following the resignation of Julian Nagelsmann.

Nagelsmann, whose contract ran until 2028, stepped down just four days after Germany's disappointing exit in the round of 32 of the World Cup to Paraguay. Klopp, former Liverpool and Borussia Dortmund coach, is under contract with Red Bull as Head of Global Soccer, but Sky Germany reported that he has a verbal agreement allowing him to leave to take charge of 'Die Mannschaft'.

Speaking to Magenta TV, where he works as an analyst during the World Cup, Klopp said: 'The timing is not ideal now, but it's better than ever before. I have regained all my energy and more. So I am ready.'

He continued: 'I have an existing contract with Red Bull. I am keen to respect contracts. But I am interested in having talks. They must be intensive talks. The problems we face now are not just about Julian Nagelsmann.'

He added: 'We need to make radical changes now. Whether it ends up being me or someone else, that does not change the fact that changes are necessary.'

Klopp indicated that he would also need to speak with Red Bull CEO Oliver Mintzlaff. Klopp, who led Liverpool to win the Champions League and Premier League, said: 'German football is close to my heart. Red Bull must exit this situation in a proper way. It is not easy to get out of it.'
