Video: Shobair: Lekjaa and Motsepe support increasing clubs in African competitions
Media personality and former Egypt national team goalkeeper Ahmed Shobair said on Saturday that the proposal submitted by the head of the Egyptian Football Association and CAF Executive Committee member Hany Abo Rida regarding increasing the number of clubs participating in African competitions is backed by prominent figures within CAF.
On his show on Egyptian channel Al-Nahar, Shobair said that a meeting of CAF's Executive Committee was scheduled for Friday to discuss the proposal, but logistical obstacles prevented it.
The former Al Ahly goalkeeper added: 'Despite the meeting not taking place, most opinions within CAF support the proposal. It is backed by Motsepe (CAF President) and Mr. Fouzi Lekjaa (CAF Vice President and President of the Moroccan Football Federation). Approval of the proposal to increase clubs is expected in the coming days, whether through a new meeting or otherwise.'

The proposal includes granting some associations (including Egypt) an additional seat in each competition, so that the number of clubs participating from some countries (based on ranking) reaches 3 clubs in both the CAF Champions League and the CAF Confederation Cup, with the third club starting from the preliminary rounds.
Shobair confirmed that the matter is still 'strongly on the table' within CAF, and a decision is expected soon before the announcement of Africa's agenda for the new season.
