Webber describes speculation about Piastri's future as 'fantasy'
Mark Webber, Oscar Piastri's manager, dismisses rumors of a potential swap between Piastri and Max Verstappen as pure imagination.
Mark Webber, manager of Formula 1 driver Oscar Piastri, denied the accuracy of reports suggesting a possible swap between the Australian driver's team McLaren and Max Verstappen's Red Bull, describing them as mere fantasy.
Gianpiero Lambiase, Verstappen's race engineer, who has won the world championship four times, has already signed an agreement to join McLaren when his contract allows, no later than 2028, and the Dutch driver is reportedly unhappy with Red Bull's performance.
Verstappen's contract includes a release clause, and media speculation continues to link him with McLaren, despite the team expressing satisfaction with its current duo of Piastri and world champion Lando Norris.
Piastri said during the British Grand Prix: "I have a valid contract and multiple confirmations that the team is very happy with me, and I am very happy with the team."
Verstappen retired from the race after a crash, describing his car's rear wing as "extremely dangerous," fueling speculation of internal team discord.
Piastri is under contract with McLaren.
Webber told specialist motorsport website Racer that Piastri is under contract with McLaren for the "foreseeable future."
The former Formula 1 driver added: "Talk of him seeking a move is nonsense," further stating, "Many fantasy stories have been written about him and other teams... McLaren has repeatedly confirmed they want him for the long term, and Oscar is focused on that."
