English club Ipswich Town has entered the race to sign Imam Ashour, the midfield star of the Egyptian national team and Al Ahly, during the current summer transfer window.

Media personality Hani Hathout revealed, via "Modern" channel on Saturday evening, that negotiations have officially launched between the English club's management and Al Ahly to secure the services of the Pharaohs' playmaker.

He explained that an Ipswich Town envoy presented an opening offer of £5 million, equivalent to approximately 333 million Egyptian pounds, in an attempt to sign the player who shone notably in the 2026 World Cup.

Ashour scored Egypt's opening goal in the tournament against Belgium, before finding the net again against Australia in the round of 32, and also delivered a distinguished performance against Argentina in the round of 16, but an injury forced him to exit at halftime.

Ipswich Town, which recently achieved promotion to the English Premier League, is preparing for the 2026-2027 season among the top flight, although its history indicates a quick return to the second division on previous occasions.

The race also includes European competition, as reports indicated interest from other clubs in Ashour, most notably Scottish Celtic and English West Ham United, placing Al Ahly in front of a difficult decision regarding the future of their star.
