German Matthias Jaissle, head coach of Al-Ahli first football team, has declined to accept the offer presented by the club's company management to renew his contract until the end of the 2029 season, according to special sources for Al-Riyadiya. The same sources revealed that Jaissle had initially welcomed the idea of renewal during negotiations, before backtracking and rejecting the offer due to the inclusion of a penalty clause in the new contract. Al-Ahli management insisted on including the penalty clause, equivalent to six months' salary, in order to preserve the club's rights in case of termination before its end, and to avoid bearing the full financial value of the new contract, which exceeds 150 million riyals, which the management considers a major financial risk inconsistent with the club's policy on long-term contracts, according to the sources. They explained that the German coach's current contract is still valid, after the club renewed it early last season in appreciation of the results and technical levels achieved by the team, with one season remaining. The Al-Ahli offer included extending the contract by three additional seasons, keeping the same fixed salary, which had been increased by 50 percent less than ten months ago, in addition to raising bonuses for winning titles to higher levels compared to the previous contract, according to the sources. In response, the German coach refused to include the penalty clause, preferring to continue with his current contract until its end, rather than signing a new contract with terms different from the previous agreement. The sources indicated that Jaissle rejected, during oral negotiations, another proposal to link automatic renewal to winning major titles, and insisted that any new contract have the same salary and previous conditions, without adding new stipulations or clauses. The sources confirmed that Al-Ahli management remains committed to including a penalty clause in any future agreement, if it is decided to extend the coach's contract beyond next season, as one of the basic guarantees to protect the club's interests. It is worth noting that Jaissle has been leading Al-Ahli since July 2023, after the club contracted him from Austrian Red Bull Salzburg. The German coach succeeded during his tenure with the team in leading it to win two titles in the AFC Champions League Elite, in addition to the Saudi Super Cup, achieving three official titles.
