Science and Technology / Galaxy Arm Shines in Sky of 'Umm al-Asafir' in a Captivating Astronomical Scene South of Rafha
Rafha, Muharram 26, 1448 AH corresponding to July 11, 2026 AD, SPA -- The arm of the galaxy (the Milky Way) was observed shining in the sky of the "Umm al-Asafir" area, located 60 kilometers south of Rafha governorate today, in a remarkable astronomical scene that showed the clear extension of the arm thanks to clear skies and low levels of light pollution, providing ideal conditions for astronomical observation and night photography. Burjas al-Fulaih, a member of the AFAQ Society for Astronomy, told SPA that the scene showed the dense extension of the galactic arm in the heart of the sky, with thousands of stars and star clouds emerging, in an image reflecting the purity of the atmosphere and the absence of effective light sources in the area, which contributed to showing the details of the arm clearly and highlighting the beauty of the night sky. He pointed out that the periods at the beginning and end of each lunar month (July, August, September, October) are among the best times to observe the arm of the galaxy "Milky Way", as the absence or low intensity of moonlight increases the contrast of the galaxy and shows its details more clearly, providing a suitable environment for amateur astronomical observation and photography. Al-Fulaih affirmed that desert areas with low light pollution are among the most suitable sites for following astronomical phenomena, due to their open horizon and clear skies that allow viewing celestial objects with the naked eye or using astronomical equipment, supporting the growing interest in astro-tourism and nature photography in the Kingdom. // End // 23:54 T.M. 0103
