Beijing, July 17 /QNA/ Chinese President Xi Jinping announced today the establishment of the Global Organization for Cooperation in Artificial Intelligence, stressing the importance of addressing challenges associated with the rapid development of this technology.

Xi said, during a speech at the opening of the 2026 World Artificial Intelligence Conference and the High-Level Meeting on Global Governance of Artificial Intelligence in Shanghai, that the world is witnessing an unprecedented stage of innovation in AI technologies, providing vast opportunities and posing new challenges in the field of governance.

He considered that the international community faces questions regarding how to achieve coexistence between humans and machines capable of thinking, ensure security while algorithms participate in decision-making processes, as well as address ethical issues posed by these technologies, alongside narrowing the digital divide to ensure broader benefit from AI.

The Chinese president stressed that these challenges require shared thinking and efforts from all countries of the world to establish appropriate governance frameworks for AI.

It is noted that the conference activities are held under the slogan 'Intelligent Partners, Creating the Future Together' and will continue until July 20.
