Galaxy Ring: First Smart Ring to Detect Sleep Apnea with Official Medical Approval
Samsung announced that its Galaxy Ring will receive FDA clearance for sleep apnea risk detection, making it the first smart ring with such certification.
Samsung announced during the Galaxy Unpacked 2026 event that its Galaxy Ring smart ring will receive a new feature later this year to detect the risk of sleep apnea, becoming the first smart ring to receive U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) clearance for this function.
The company explained that the feature will be available in the fall as part of an update to the Samsung Health platform, emphasizing that it is a risk assessment tool and not a medical diagnostic device, recommending consultation with a specialist if indicators warrant examination.
Samsung said this clearance gives the Galaxy Ring an advantage in the wearable device market, although it did not specify an exact launch date other than that it will be before the end of the year.
