Google announced new features for Google Vids, allowing users to create digital replicas that mimic their features and voices to appear in AI-generated videos.

The feature relies on a personal photo and voice recording uploaded by the user.

The company explained that the feature relies on a personal photo and voice recording uploaded by the user, after which a digital character is created that can be used to present content without the need to appear in front of the camera.

Google also added its Gemini Omni AI model to the platform, enabling video creation by combining text and images uploaded by the user, along with the ability to edit backgrounds, improve lighting, and add visual effects.

Users can make step-by-step edits to the video while working, without needing to re-generate the entire clip for each change.

The company confirmed that these updates transform the platform from a tool dedicated to presentations in work environments into a comprehensive video creation platform, which can be utilized for training clips and internal company updates, noting that this feature is available to users aged 18 and older in certain specified regions.

Google indicated that the digital replicas will be linked to the account owner and will carry an invisible digital watermark to ensure the content was created using AI.

Google Workspace Product Director Justin Lock said that users can now appear in videos through their digital characters in a new way, without needing to set up a camera or record clips themselves.
