Hani Nofal, Regional Chief Technology Officer for Middle East and Africa at NTT DATA, said that the early years of the AI boom were focused on training software and training AI models.

Nofal added, in an interview with Al Arabiya Business, that this training required very powerful processors, which led to Nvidia's dominance in the chip industry over the past years due to its possession of data centers and the large capabilities required for energy, networks, and infrastructure needed for training.

He explained that for years, markets have been rapidly moving to the operational phase, where operating these models requires a different infrastructure that does not need the same processor power.

Nofal said that operating AI models requires processors with higher efficiency and memory 8 to 10 times higher, so today we are seeing very high demand for memory chips, which benefits companies like SK Hynix and Samsung.

He added that AI markets are currently witnessing the emergence of startups offering a new generation of processors used in operating AI models.
