OpenAI announced the launch of ChatGPT Work, a new AI agent integrated into the Codex platform, designed to independently execute complex tasks across the web, smartphones, and computers, aiming to transform ChatGPT from a conversational assistant into one capable of completing daily tasks without continuous user intervention.

ChatGPT Work can perform multi-step tasks, with the ability to schedule them to continue working automatically in the background. It can also use local applications and files, or access websites, tools, and cloud files via a new built-in browser.

Users can start or follow tasks from any device, including smartphones, while plugins allow ChatGPT Work to connect with various applications and systems to exchange data and execute tasks between them.

OpenAI added a new experimental feature called Sites, which enables the creation of interactive websites and custom web applications for reports, live dashboards, and other work applications based on artificial intelligence.

ChatGPT Work relies on the new GPT-5.6 models, which the company says provide higher performance in programming, document preparation, presentations, and spreadsheets, alongside improvements in user interface design and execution of cognitive tasks.

ChatGPT Work is available as of today for Pro, Enterprise, and Edu plan subscribers, and will reach Plus and Business plan subscribers in the coming days.

In the same context, OpenAI announced the integration of the Codex application with ChatGPT and the launch of a new unified desktop application for Windows and macOS. The current ChatGPT application will be renamed to ChatGPT Classic.
