Samsung announced during the Galaxy Unpacked 2026 event its foldable phone Galaxy Z Flip 8, along with the Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra, with improvements focusing on design and external screen enhancement, without major changes to the camera system.

The new phone maintains the overall design of the previous generation, but comes with a thinner and lighter body, weighing 180 grams, with dimensions of 85.7 × 75.4 × 13.1 mm when folded and 166.9 × 75.4 × 6.1 mm when unfolded, making it easier to carry and use daily.

The phone features a 6.9-inch AMOLED 2X internal screen with a resolution of 1080 × 2520 pixels, adaptive refresh rate up to 120 Hz, and Vision Booster technology for improved visibility in bright light.

The phone retains the Flex Window external screen, measuring 4.1 inches with a resolution of 948 × 1048 pixels and a refresh rate between 60 and 120 Hz.

Samsung focused most improvements on the external screen, which now displays apps, notifications, and actions directly without needing to open the phone.

Samsung added the Now Brief feature, which provides quick summaries, suggestions, and next steps based on usage, along with deeper integration of Gemini Intelligence capabilities, allowing tasks to be performed by pressing the side button or using natural voice commands.

In terms of photography, Samsung made no hardware changes compared to the previous generation, as the phone includes a 50-megapixel main camera with an f/1.8 aperture, a 12-megapixel ultra-wide camera, and a 10-megapixel front camera.

The phone supports using the main camera for selfies via the external screen, and offers a Camcorder Grip mode that makes video recording easier horizontally when holding the lower half of the phone.

Samsung also added a new stabilization option for video recording at up to 4K at 60 frames per second, a feature similar to that offered by action cameras like GoPro.

The Galaxy Z Flip 8 is powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy processor, with improvements in performance and power efficiency. The phone has a dual battery with a capacity of 4300 mAh, supporting 25W wired charging and 15W wireless charging, unchanged.

Samsung raised the phone's price by about $100 compared to the previous generation, starting at $1,200. The company has opened initial reservations through its official store and several retail stores worldwide, with shipping expected to begin on August 7.
