Pakistan's monsoon rains raise death toll to 299 - Archive

11 people, mostly women and children, were killed when a roof collapsed due to heavy rains in Kohat district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province in northwestern Pakistan, in the latest toll from the monsoon rains battering the country.

Emergency services official in the province, Bilal Faizi, said rescue teams recovered the bodies from the rubble, while no additional injuries were reported at the site.

During the monsoon season, which usually lasts from June to September, Pakistan experiences heavy rains that frequently cause house collapses, especially in rural areas, as well as floods and landslides that disrupt transport and cause widespread damage to infrastructure.
