A landslide struck Pengshui County in southeast China on Friday, killing at least 8 people and leaving 34 others missing.
A total of 800 rescue personnel participated in search operations, and 18 people who were trapped were found, including 8 who died.
Television footage broadcast by China's CCTV showed large amounts of rocks and soil covering a residential and commercial area at the foot of a mountain.
Chinese President Xi Jinping called for comprehensive search operations and identification of the cause of the incident, while the Chinese government allocated 50 million yuan to support rescue efforts and assist those affected.
This comes less than two weeks after another landslide in Gansu Province in northwest China killed 21 people.
