France's Foreign Ministry summoned the Iranian charge d'affaires on Tuesday, two days after announcing that two French embassy employees had been detained and subjected to physical intimidation by Iranian security forces in Tehran.

The ministry said: "France expects Iranian authorities to clarify the circumstances of this incident, punish those responsible, and ensure the security of its premises and staff, in line with its international obligations."

French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot said on Monday that he had raised the issue with his Iranian counterpart Abbas Araghchi, warning that the incident would not go without consequences.

Araghchi posted on his Telegram account that he told Barrot that the 'unconventional and unprofessional' behavior of the French diplomats was 'unacceptable,' and urged Paris to prevent similar incidents.

He said, 'Respecting the laws and regulations of the host country and adhering to recognized diplomatic principles and norms is essential for the continuation of diplomatic missions' activities.'

Araghchi added, 'We expect the French government to prevent the recurrence of such behavior and to take the necessary measures.'
