Controversial British influencer Andrew Tate and his brother Tristan have been arrested in the United States after British authorities announced they would face additional charges.

The Crown Prosecution Service in the United Kingdom said Andrew Tate is charged with seven additional counts of rape, in addition to other charges related to alleged crimes including sex trafficking and child sexual exploitation.

Tristan Tate has been charged with one count of sexual assault, two counts of rape, and three counts of arranging or facilitating trafficking for sexual exploitation.

According to the allegations, the alleged crimes occurred between July 2010 and August 2017, but the brothers have previously denied any illegal activity.

Malcolm McHaffie, head of the Special Crime Division at the Crown Prosecution Service, said the latest charging decisions came "after receipt of another file of evidence from Bedfordshire Police, bringing the total number of alleged victims in this case to seven."

The U.S. Marshals Service confirmed to the BBC that Andrew and Tristan Tate are in custody, while a spokesperson for the U.S. Department of Justice said the arrest was "as part of extradition proceedings" to the United Kingdom.

The Crown Prosecution Service said in its statement that it has requested the extradition of the brothers, who hold dual British and American citizenship, from the United States.

Joseph McBride, the lawyer representing the Tate family, said in a statement after their arrest on Saturday evening that "the world knows Andrew and Tristan are innocent."

He added: "Their enemies know that more than anyone, and that is precisely why they are being targeted," describing the new British charges as "politically motivated."

He explained that the new charges are intended to counter the defamation lawsuit the brothers have filed in the United States.

He said: "We are confident that once the presiding judge sees the facts, and once the Department of Justice confronts this terrible abuse of its authority, Andrew and Tristan Tate will be released."

He continued, "The United States does not implement Britain's political agendas."

It is noteworthy that the British Crown Prosecution Service confirmed in May 2025 a list of 21 charges that Andrew Tate (39) and Tristan Tate (37) would later face in UK courts.

The allegations indicate that those alleged crimes occurred between 2012 and 2016.

In 2024, Bedfordshire Police obtained two European arrest warrants to bring the brothers back from Romania, where they reside and are under criminal investigation.

In June, the brothers lost a legal bid to obtain the names of their accusers in the United Kingdom, after the British Crown Prosecution Service decided it was necessary to withhold the identities of alleged victims until legal proceedings formally begin.
