(CNN) -- The US State Department issued a global warning Saturday, advising Americans, especially those residing in the Middle East, to exercise increased caution, as the war between the United States and Iran continues.

The department said in a social media post: "Given the escalating tensions in the Middle East, the security situation remains complex with the potential for unexpected escalation. We remind Americans in the region to remain vigilant and urge them to follow the news for the latest updates."

Saturday's warning comes after the US military announced the deaths of two soldiers and the disappearance of another as a result of Iranian strikes in Jordan.

The last similar warning was issued by the State Department in March last year.
