Venezuelan Parliament Speaker Jorge Rodríguez announced Tuesday that the death toll from the two consecutive earthquakes that shook the Latin American country last month rose to 4,734.

The number of injured in the two earthquakes that occurred on June 24 remained unchanged at 16,740, and the number of those displaced remained unchanged at 17,907.

Venezuela witnessed notable seismic activity during the past month of June, after being hit by two consecutive earthquakes felt by residents in several areas of the country. The two quakes highlighted Venezuela's sensitive geological location at the convergence of the Caribbean plate and the South American plate, making it prone to periodic earthquakes. Venezuelan authorities continuously monitor seismic activity in the country, amid calls to strengthen preparedness and response measures for any potential strong quakes in the future.
