America begins imposing comprehensive naval blockade on Iran
The United States resumed on Tuesday evening the naval blockade imposed on ships heading to or departing from Iranian ports, at the time confirmed by the US Central Command (CENTCOM) minutes before it took effect.
This development comes after US forces began at 3:00 p.m. executing an additional round of airstrikes against Iran, targeting capabilities related to operations in the vicinity of the Strait of Hormuz.
The resumption of the blockade comes a day after US President Donald Trump announced that the United States would reimpose it and would take charge of protecting navigation in the Strait of Hormuz.
Trump had announced on Monday imposing a 20% fee on shipping companies to compensate the United States for providing security in the strait, before reversing the decision on Tuesday and replacing it with commercial and investment agreements with Gulf states.
The United States had previously imposed a naval blockade on Iranian ports that lasted about two months, between April and June, with its operations extending from the Middle East to the Indian Ocean over thousands of miles.
