New York Mayor Studies Arresting Netanyahu During UN General Assembly
New York Mayor Zahran Mamdani announced that he is conducting legal consultations regarding the possibility of arresting Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu during his expected participation in the United Nations General Assembly meetings in September.
Mamdani said that Netanyahu is a "war criminal and his place is The Hague," referring to the arrest warrant issued against him by the International Criminal Court, but he acknowledged that his authority to issue orders to the New York police to arrest a foreign official is unclear.
He explained that he is discussing the matter with the city's legal team, stressing that his administration will take any action permitted by law.

Mamdani's statements sparked sharp criticism from Israel's ambassador to the UN, Danny Danon, who confirmed that Netanyahu will participate in the General Assembly and deliver his speech, accusing the New York mayor of incitement against Israel.
Mamdani had previously pledged to execute the International Criminal Court's arrest warrants against wanted leaders if they enter New York, including Netanyahu and Russian President Vladimir Putin.
