On Sunday, the work of the first session of the Syrian People's Assembly began with the presence of President Ahmad al-Sharaa.

According to the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA), the session was opened by the head of the Supreme Committee for People's Assembly Elections, Muhammad Taha al-Ahmad, and the members of the assembly took the oath in the presence of President al-Sharaa.

Al-Sharaa said in a speech before members of the People's Assembly: 'Humanity has been seeking, since its inception, the optimal way to manage its interests, for acceptance and satisfaction are a means to dispel discord.'

And he stated that 'Syria is writing a glorious history that expresses its heroics, and we are faced with the responsibility of building the nation and the individual, prioritizing responsibility, and we are partners in building responsibility. Today, the assembly is a platform for truth and justice.'

He also called for making this assembly a model in responsibility and efficiency, and for it to contribute to establishing a culture of dialogue, the rule of law, and respect for institutions.

And al-Sharaa said, 'Syria today is writing a new history that expresses its civilization, values, and heritage. Let us together make the history of modern Syria.'

The head of the Supreme Committee for Assembly Elections pointed out that 'Today's session is historic, representing the blood of the martyrs, and a pivotal historic moment in which we announce to the world that Syria has shaken off the dust of war.'

And al-Ahmad stated that true value is not measured by words but by the magnitude of the sacrifices made by the great Syrian people.

For his part, Osama al-Assaf, the oldest member of the People's Assembly, called on members of the temporary legal committee to oversee the electoral process, count votes, and set electoral regulations for the presidential office of the People's Assembly.

The convening of the inaugural session of the new People's Assembly on Sunday is a pivotal milestone marking the launch of the first assembly after the fall of the Assad regime, through legal and organizational procedures based on the Constitutional Declaration of 2025.
