The Israeli military established a closed military zone around the Gaza Strip today (Sunday) to prevent a march advocating for settlements, planned by ministers and lawmakers from far-right and right-wing factions and their supporters, into Palestinian territories. The far-right aims to establish new Israeli settlements in the Gaza Strip.

The Times of Israel reported that eight ministers are scheduled to participate in the march, including far-right National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir and Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich.

Smotrich stated last March that preparations for three Israeli settlements in the Gaza Strip were complete. He called on Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Israel Katz to implement the plans, though there has been no response.

In the occupied West Bank, Israeli settlers set fire to a mosque and two homes in Masafer Yatta, south of the West Bank, on Sunday, according to local sources, while Israeli police stated they are investigating the incident.

Mohammad Rabai, head of the At-Tuwani village council, told Agence France-Presse that more than 30 masked settlers attacked the village after midnight, using flammable materials to set fire to a mosque, two houses, and a dairy factory, while also damaging a vehicle and spray-painting Hebrew graffiti on the walls of the mosque and one of the houses.

He added that the settlers fled the scene after villagers emerged from their homes, noting that local volunteers managed to extinguish the fires. Rabai highlighted that the damage was severe at the dairy factory, which is operated by women from Masafer Yatta.

For its part, Israeli police stated that police and army forces were summoned to At-Tuwani village last night following reports of suspects causing damage, including burning a vehicle, damaging the door of a building used for prayer, and painting slogans on the walls.

Police added that forces searched for the suspects and forensic investigators collected evidence from the scene. The investigation into the circumstances of the incident is ongoing.
