The League of Arab States affirmed that the Palestinian issue is at a very dangerous turning point, amid the continued Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip, and the escalation of settlement and annexation policies in the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, warning against attempts to liquidate the Palestinian cause and undermine the right of return for Palestinian refugees.

This came in a speech by the Assistant Secretary-General, Head of the Palestine and Occupied Arab Territories Sector at the League of Arab States, Ambassador Dr. Faed Mustafa, during the opening of the Conference of Supervisors of Palestinian Affairs in Host Arab Countries, held today at the headquarters of the General Secretariat of the League of Arab States in Cairo. Ambassador Mustafa affirmed that the Palestinian refugee issue represents the core of the Palestinian cause, and that the right of return is an inalienable right that does not lapse by prescription, reiterating the Arab League's rejection of any attempts aimed at ending the mandate of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) or reducing its role, calling for enhanced Arab and international support for refugees and host Arab countries, foremost among which is the establishment of an independent state on the borders of June 4, 1967, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
