Rail service between Tehran and Mashhad was suspended on Thursday, according to Iranian state TV, due to US attacks on the railway line.

This development came hours before the funeral of Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei in Mashhad, a city in eastern Iran.

The operator of Iran's railways stated that the suspension was due to a 'criminal attack by the US-Israeli enemy' targeting the railway track.

The company added that it has sent repair crews to fix the damage, and authorities are working to provide ground transportation for stranded passengers.

This comes hours before Khamenei's burial in Mashhad, with ceremonies scheduled to begin in the afternoon, according to Iranian state TV.
