Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam announced that US President Donald Trump agreed to allow US airlines to operate direct flights to Beirut, following his meeting with Lebanese President Joseph Aoun at the White House.

Salam said: 'Many thanks to US President Donald Trump for allowing US airlines to operate direct flights to Beirut,' stressing the readiness of the Lebanese government to follow up on all required executive and technical procedures to implement the decision as soon as possible.

He added that the resumption of direct flights represents 'an important opportunity to enhance travel and communication between Lebanon and the United States, and to support the Lebanese economy.'

According to a statement from the Lebanese presidency, Aoun and Trump discussed during their meeting files on security and the economy, enhancing US support for the Lebanese army, reconstruction, and encouraging US investments. The Lebanese president also stressed the necessity of a complete Israeli withdrawal from Lebanese territory and raised the importance of re-establishing direct air connectivity between Lebanon and the United States, before the two sides agreed to continue coordination to implement what was agreed upon in the security, defense, and economic fields.
