The death toll from the two earthquakes that struck Venezuela has risen to 5,119.

President of the National Assembly of Venezuela, Jorge Rodríguez, said in a statement: "5,119 people have been killed and 16,740 others injured."

Rise in death toll

Over the past 24 hours, the death toll has increased by 50 people, while the number of survivors rescued remained unchanged at 6,462.

It is recalled that on June 24, Venezuela suffered two earthquakes of magnitudes 7.2 and 7.5 on the Richter scale, approximately 40 seconds apart. After the disaster, Venezuelan authorities declared a state of emergency, while countries and international organizations sent rescue teams and humanitarian aid to the country.
