Burhanettin Duran, Head of Communications for the Turkish Presidency, strongly condemned the European Parliament's decision regarding the peace process carried out by Turkey in Cyprus in 1974, calling it 'unacceptable' and containing baseless allegations.

In a post on Turkish social media platform 'X' (formerly Twitter) on Friday, Duran said: 'This politically motivated initiative, which approaches the Cyprus issue from a biased perspective and ignores the legitimate rights of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus and the Turkish Cypriot people, is worthless and invalid.'

He added that Turkey, under the leadership of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, will continue to firmly support the sovereign equality and equal international status of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, and will continue to defend the rights and interests of Turkish Cypriots in all forums.

Duran emphasized that 'the Turkish Armed Forces brought peace and security to the island through the 1974 Cyprus Peace Operation, and Turkey became a guarantor for the existence and future of the Turkish Cypriot people.'

He stressed that 'any decision made with political motives will not change the truth and will not cast a shadow on Turkey's determined stance on the Cyprus issue.'
