Egypt strongly condemned the storming of the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque by Israeli National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir, Knesset members, and thousands of settlers under the protection of Israeli police, along with the accompanying provocative practices, constituting a flagrant violation of the historical and legal status quo at the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque.

According to an official statement from the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Cairo warned that the continuation of these violations and provocative practices would fuel tension, undermine opportunities for calm and stability, and lead to further escalation in the occupied Palestinian territories and the region, threatening regional peace and security.

Egypt reiterated its call on the international community and the Security Council to assume their responsibilities to stop Israeli violations against Islamic and Christian holy sites in occupied Jerusalem, ensure respect for the historical and legal status quo, and comply with international law and relevant UN resolutions, thereby contributing to restoring security and stability and preserving opportunities for a just and comprehensive peace based on the two-state solution.

Hundreds of Israeli settlers, led by far-right National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir and Knesset member from the ruling Likud party Amit Halevi, stormed Al-Aqsa on Thursday under heavy police escort.

During the incursion, settlers raised the Israeli flag in front of the Dome of the Rock. According to Palestinian media, Israeli police set up a canopy for settlers in the eastern courtyard of Al-Aqsa Mosque, imposed severe restrictions, and prevented Muslims from entering the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque.
