Data released by the European Statistical Office (Eurostat) showed that global demand for European goods and services provided about 31.6 million job opportunities within the European Union in 2024, the highest level recorded, equivalent to 14.4% of total employment in the bloc.

The data also showed that the number of jobs linked to demand from outside the union rose from 22.6 million jobs in 2010, which then represented 11.5% of total employment, reflecting the growing contribution of foreign trade to supporting the European labor market. The total value added related to final consumption outside the European Union also recorded significant growth, rising from 1.3 trillion euros in 2010 to 2.8 trillion euros in 2024.

The contribution of this value to the total economic output of the European Union rose from 13.3% to 17.2% over the same period, indicating the growing importance of external markets for the European economy. Data from Eurostat also indicated that the United States topped the list of trading partners in terms of supporting European jobs, as US demand contributed to providing 6 million jobs within the union, representing 19.1% of the total jobs linked to external demand.
