Fire at Children's Institution Kills 11 in Algeria
Algerian authorities announced the death of 11 people and injury of 19 others, in an initial toll, following a fire that broke out at dawn today inside a children's care institution in the capital Algiers.
The General Directorate of Civil Protection stated, in a statement, that its teams provided first aid and transported 19 injured, including 10 people who suffered burns of varying severity, while two people suffered from chest tightness and difficulty breathing.
It added that rescue teams managed to evacuate five people with special needs to a safe place, while civil protection teams continue firefighting and search operations inside the site.
It indicated that the competent authorities will announce the final toll and the causes of the fire outbreak after completing rescue operations and ongoing investigations.
